FAQ
ABOUT OUR COURSE
This 5-day instructional course provides a comprehensive overview of clinical ophthalmology for residents and practicing ophthalmologists. Specific emphasis is placed on preparing attendees for the annual OKAP and American Board of Ophthalmology examinations. In addition to certification or recertification preparation, it serves as an excellent clinician update. We won't sugar coat this- this course is rigorous and is intended for those who are serious about passing their exam.
All attendees will be offered an electronic version of our 600+ study guide, the PowerPoint session slides, on-demand videos, and time at the end of each session for Q&A. For attendees choosing the virtual course, the videos and presentations will be loaded by the end of the in-person conference.
Our speakers have all been in your place and they want you to succeed! In each session, the speaker will give you tips and tricks to help you remember important items. Each session is different- speakers keep you engaged with questions during sessions, pre-tests, and helpful images to aid you in identifying diagnosis and treatment.
On Friday, 07 MAR from 11:30-2:30pm CST we will offer mock orals in person. The intent of this is for you to practice your mock orals as you will experience them in the real world. Take the jitters out of your oral boards and participate in our mock orals. At the end of each session, our faculty will give you helpful advice after each round specific to you. Participants will rotate to 4 different rooms, every 30 minutes, to discuss different scenarios. There are 2-3 participants in each room to ensure maximum learning. This is a SEPARATE registration and can be combined with the Course. Space is limited and often sells out. Note: You do not have to attend the course to participate in mock orals.
SAOC began as an intensive review for military ophthalmology residents based in San Antonio and has grown to be an internationally recognized course with more than 250 civilian and military attendees annually. Formerly known as the Brooke Army Medical Center Ophthalmology Review Course, it was founded in 1993 by William C. Lloyd III, MD, FACS. We have 30 years of course instruction and participants successfully pass their exams. Our course was founded and is still operating with the vision of helping participants succeed.
